You don't need to spend $1,000 to dramatically improve your TV's sound. In fact, the sweet spot for most buyers sits between $100 and $300, where you can get better dialogue, deeper bass, and HDMI ARC without breaking the bank.
Here are the affordable soundbars we'd recommend in 2026. But curious to which one I have? I got the Sony HT-S400 in my living room.

Buying Tips
Before you buy, keep these three things in mind:
HDMI ARC or eARC is a must. It makes setup easier and lets your TV remote control volume.
A wireless subwoofer is worth the extra money. It's the single biggest upgrade for movies and gaming.
Don't chase Dolby Atmos at all costs. Budget Atmos soundbars can improve immersion, but a well-tuned 2.1 or 3.1 system often sounds better than a mediocre Atmos implementation.
Our Take
Most people don't need a flagship soundbar. Spending around $200 gets you into the performance sweet spot where dialogue becomes clearer, bass has real impact, and movies become significantly more immersive. Unless you're building a dedicated home theater, that's where we'd spend our money.
Bottom line: Buy the best soundbar you can comfortably afford—but don't assume the most expensive one is automatically the best value.
