Yamaha has announced the R200A, a new 2-channel stereo receiver designed as an affordable entry point into Hi-Fi. Replacing the popular R-S202, the new receiver adds a dedicated phono input, subwoofer output, Bluetooth Multipoint, and several internal upgrades.
The R200A delivers 100 watts per channel at 8 ohms and can power up to two pairs of speakers, with A/B speaker selection allowing listeners to switch between them. Yamaha has also upgraded the receiver with binding-post speaker terminals for more secure connections.
For vinyl listeners, the R200A includes a dedicated phono input, allowing a turntable to connect directly without requiring a separate phono preamp. There's also a dedicated subwoofer output for adding more low-end to a bookshelf or floorstanding speaker setup. For wireless listening, Bluetooth Multipoint allows two devices to remain connected and makes it easier to switch between them. An AM/FM tuner with 40 programmable presets is also built in.

Internally, Yamaha says it has redesigned several aspects of the receiver compared with its predecessor. The R200A features a new center-beam chassis intended to reduce vibration, along with enhanced grounding circuitry, selected components, and a redesigned heat sink. The receiver will be offered in black and silver finishes.
Why It Matters
This is exactly the kind of Hi-Fi gear we like to see: more budget-friendly components hitting genuinely accessible price points. 100 watts per channel isn't a massive amount of power, but it's still plenty for most bookshelf speaker setups.
And did we mention the phono input? At $299.95, having a built-in phono stage, dedicated subwoofer output, Bluetooth Multipoint, and support for two pairs of speakers adds a lot of versatility for the money. Whether you're putting together your first stereo system or just need something affordable for a second listening space, there's a lot of potential value here. We're excited to check this one out and see how it performs.
