The new U-725 series includes four models: the U8-725, U12-725, U12-725 Plus and U16-725 Plus. All four are built around Intel Xeon D processors and TerraMaster's TOS 7 operating system, with support for ECC memory, NVMe SSD caching and high-speed networking.
The U12-725, for example, uses an Intel Xeon D-2712T processor with 16GB of ECC DDR4 memory, which can be expanded up to 1TB. It also offers up to 50Gbps of combined network bandwidth through four 10GbE SFP+ ports and two 5GbE RJ45 ports.
Storage capacity varies across the lineup, with the U8-725 offering eight drive bays, the U12-725 and U12-725 Plus providing 12 bays, and the U16-725 Plus expanding that to 16 bays. Multiple PCIe expansion slots also allow businesses to add networking cards, RAID controllers, AI acceleration hardware and other components as their needs grow.
For data protection, TerraMaster includes its BBS (Business Backup Suite), which provides centralized backup, synchronization, snapshots and disaster recovery tools. The systems can protect data across PCs, servers, virtual machines and network storage, while features such as remote replication and recovery tools are designed to help businesses deal with hardware failures, accidental deletion and ransomware.
The U-725 series is also designed to run multiple workloads from a single platform, including virtual machines, centralized surveillance storage, media collaboration, AI datasets, enterprise file sharing and cloud synchronization.
The TerraMaster U8-725, U12-725, U12-725 Plus and U16-725 Plus are available now, with pricing starting at $4,999 for the U8-725 through TerraMaster's official website.
Why It Matters
TerraMaster continues to push further into the higher-end NAS market, and the U-725 lineup shows just how much these systems are being asked to handle. With Xeon processors, ECC memory, high-speed networking and support for virtualization and AI workloads, these are designed to be much more than basic file servers.
The biggest consideration for businesses, however, could be the overall cost of building out one of these systems. The starting price is already $4,999 before filling the available drive bays, and businesses that want to take advantage of the expandable memory and high-performance capabilities will need to factor in the additional cost of RAM and storage.
For organizations managing large amounts of data, though, the ability to scale storage, memory and expansion hardware over time could make the U-725 series an interesting option as workloads continue to grow.
