BOYA has launched the Notra Neo, a compact AI-powered recorder designed to capture everyday conversations and turn them into organized notes. It’s the latest addition to the company’s lineup of AI note-taking devices and offers a simpler alternative to the more advanced Notra model. The device can record in-person discussions, phone calls, and Bluetooth audio, automatically switching between modes depending on how it’s being used. It has a three-microphone setup, consisting of two MEMS microphones and a voice conduction sensor, along with AI noise cancellation rated at up to -30 dB. BOYA claims a pickup range of up to five meters, making it suitable for meetings, lectures, and interviews. When attached to a smartphone, the voice conduction sensor captures both sides of a phone call, while Bluetooth recording offers another option for online meetings and virtual classes.
After a recording is finished, BOYA’s AI software can transcribe it in more than 140 languages, identify individual speakers, and generate summaries, key points, mind maps, and action items. An Ask AI feature also lets users search through previous conversations for specific details without replaying entire recordings, and everything can be accessed, synchronized, and exported through the BOYA OS app and web platform. The Notra Neo measures just 63 × 63 mm and weighs 34.5 grams, but it still offers up to 20 hours of continuous recording and includes 8GB of onboard storage. BOYA also advertises unlimited cloud storage, along with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi file transfers, and lists AES-256 encryption and TLS 1.3 support to help protect stored and transferred information.
Why It Matters
AI note-taking devices are showing up everywhere, but a dedicated recorder still has its appeal, especially one that doesn’t make you fiddle with settings or bounce between apps. The Notra Neo handles in-person conversations, phone calls, and Bluetooth audio on its own, which could make it a handy pick for anyone who sits through a lot of meetings, interviews people, or takes notes in class.
The real question is how well it actually performs. We’d want to see how accurately it captures conversations and whether the AI-generated summaries are worth relying on. The price could make it an attractive alternative to pricier AI recorders, though we’d also like to know which features work without an ongoing subscription.
