Jamo has introduced the HYG 5, a new all-in-one Wi-Fi speaker that combines wireless streaming, amplification, and stereo sound in a single fabric-wrapped cabinet. As the flagship model in Jamo's HYG Series, it's designed for listeners who want a complete home audio setup without the hassle of separate components. The speaker takes its name from the Danish concept of hygge, which is all about comfort and relaxation, and its understated design is meant to fit naturally into a living room or other shared space.

Underneath the fabric exterior, the HYG 5 features two 2.5-inch full-range drivers angled upward and outward to create a wider stereo soundstage, along with a 4-inch down-firing woofer for bass. Two flared ports beneath the cabinet help manage airflow and reduce unwanted vibrations, while the built-in amplifier delivers 30 watts of total power. Jamo has also added a few thoughtful touches to make the speaker easier to live with. A simple wave of your hand wakes it and resumes playback from the previous source, while the touch controls dim when the speaker is in standby. There's even a warm ambient light ring that automatically adjusts to the room's brightness, although you can change its intensity or turn it off through the companion app.

When it comes to music, the HYG 5 supports Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, TuneIn, and QPlay II, along with AirPlay 2 and Google Cast for wireless streaming and multiroom playback. It also supports high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/96kHz, while Bluetooth 5.0 provides another way to connect your devices. For anyone with older audio equipment, a stereo RCA input allows you to hook up a CD player or a turntable with a suitable phono preamp. Everything can be managed through the Jamo Play app for iOS and Android, including setup, playback controls, and adjustable EQ settings for tailoring the sound to your preferences.

Why It Matters

Is Jamo getting ready to give Sonos some competition? That's certainly what comes to mind with the HYG 5, especially with its Wi-Fi streaming, multiroom support, and all-in-one design. But Jamo is bringing a few of its own touches to the mix, too. The fabric-covered cabinet, ambient lighting, and wave-to-wake feature give the speaker a little personality, while support for AirPlay 2 and Google Cast makes it a nice option for people who want flexibility without committing to one particular speaker ecosystem.

It’ll be interesting to hear how the HYG 5 sounds and see how smoothly its streaming and multiroom features work in everyday use. Sonos may be one of the more familiar names in this space, but it's nice to see Jamo offering another option for people looking for an all-in-one wireless speaker. A little more competition certainly isn't a bad thing.

Pricing and Availability

The Jamo HYG 5 is available beginning October 20, 2026, with a suggested retail price of $399 in the United States. European pricing is set at €399, while the UK price is £349.
