Binary Acoustics has officially launched the Binary 1900, a new $235 wired in-ear monitor that uses an unusual driver configuration designed to deliver deeper, more speaker-like bass without adding another powered woofer.
Instead of using two powered dynamic drivers, the Binary 1900 combines:
10mm dynamic driver
6mm passive radiator
Four balanced armature drivers
Three-way crossover
Modular 3.5mm and 4.4mm cable
The standout feature is the passive radiator. It's a design commonly found in bookshelf speakers and Bluetooth speakers but rarely seen inside an IEM. Rather than receiving its own audio signal, the passive radiator moves using air pressure generated by the main dynamic driver, potentially adding deeper, fuller bass without increasing distortion.
Binary says the 1900 is tuned for a fun, energetic presentation with punchy bass, natural mids, and detailed treble. Early impressions from CanJam Singapore also point toward a balanced sound signature, though we'll reserve judgment until we get a review sample in for testing.
Why It Matters
The IEM market is flooded with products claiming "more drivers" equals better sound. The Binary 1900 takes a different approach by borrowing technology from traditional loudspeakers. Driver count alone never guarantees great sound, but we're always interested when a company tries something genuinely different instead of chasing bigger numbers.
